Kuala Lumpur: Integrated oil and gas service provider Uzma Bhd is confident of winning more jobs as it is the only local firm with the technology and equipment to carry out enhanced oil recovery (EOR), essentially services to squeeze out more oil from existing fields.

EOR is one of the areas in focus by national oil company Petronas currently, apart from looking for oil in new deepwater fields and smaller or marginal fields.

So far this year, its subsidiary Uzma Engineering Sdn Bhd has won RM370 million EOR contracts from Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd. In fact, Uzma managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Kamarul Redzuan Muhamed said the company is already in the forefront of EOR projects.

Anyone with some experience with process simulators, such as HYSYS, knows that the steady state and dynamic worlds have always been separate and distinct. HYSYS is one of the few simulators on the market that connects these two worlds and creates an integrated modeling environment.

Because HYSYS links the steady state and dynamic worlds, you must be familiar with creating steady state simulations before you begin creating dynamic ones. The design and optimization of a chemical process involves the study of both steady state and dynamic behaviour. Steady state models can perform steady state energy and material balances and evaluate different plant scenarios. The design engineer can use steady state simulation to optimize the process by reducing capital and equipment costs while maximizing production.

Conceptual Design, FEED and Detailed Design Definition

• Purpose of plant/project
• Location of plant
• Overall cost of plant (+/- 30%)

Design deliverables will typically include a design basis with main process parameters defined (=overall plant production requirements etc.), some overall block flow diagrams, a preliminary space study to define overall space requirements and finally an overall cost estimate.
 

Piping and Instrument Diagram (P&ID)

The Piping and Instrumentation Diagram is the road map for completing Piping Layout/Arrangement Drawings. The Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) is developed from the Process Flow Diagram (PFD) and is a schematic drawing representing the process equipment, showing nozzles, all pipes and in-line fittings (valves, tees, reducers, strainers, sight glasses, drains, vents, sample points, control valves etc.) instruments and control loops (but not instrument piping), and some electrical data such as tracing and motor drives.
