ENGINEERING
  • Perform Conceptual Studies
  • Perform FEED (Front End Engineering Design)
  • Perform Detailed Process Design
  • Projects include Green Field (new facilities) and Brown Field (modification to existing facilities)
  • Perform flare and blowdown studies
  • Perform acoustic induced vibration (AIV) studies
  • Perform pipeline flow assurance studies
  • Perform process calculations such as:
  • Vessel sizing
  • Pump sizing
  • Process line sizing
  • Pressure relief valve sizing
  • Restriction orifice sizing
  • Settle-out calculations
  • Develop process and pipeline simulations
  • Develop process flow diagrams (PFDS)
  • Develop piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDS)
  • Develop equipment and instrument data sheets
  • Develop alarm and shutdown matrices
  • Develop safe charts
  • Develop start-up and operating manual

PROCESS DRAFTING

  • Drafting process flow diagrams (PFDS)

  • HYSYS for process simulation
  • Pipesim with olga correlations for hydraulic study
  • Fred program for radiation and dispersion studies
  • Flarenet for flare hydraulic studies

DATABASE

  • Latest API codes and standards
  • Latest DEP/ PTS from shell/ petronas codes and standards
  • Latest process design instruction manual
  • Drawing database from past projects
  • In-house calculation spreadsheets
  • API line sizing for single phase and multiphase flow
  • Pump sizing and NPSHA calculations
  • Separator and scrubber sizing
  • Pressure relief valve sizing
  • Restriction orifice sizing
  • Blowdown calculations using grote’s method
  • Settle-out calculations

However, it is not an over-night process to master those skills and knowledges. Roughly estimated, at least 3 years will be the minimum period of learning and 5 years to be a Professional Engineer.
